We’ve got a solid system for organising events around our core games, but what about those nights when you just want to relax and play something different with FU friends?
We discussed the challenges of finding people to try out new games with, especially when you don’t have a regular group. With Dune Awakening on the horizon, we’re eagerly awaiting its release, but in the meantime, we’ve agreed to host more variety nights. Check out #variety-night in Discord to have your say in what we play next!
We’re also considering long-term community spaces, such as a Minecraft server, where members can drop in and out throughout the year.
Running FU is a passion project, but it also comes with real costs.
Right now, a few generous members cover expenses like:
Together, these costs add up to €300+ per year.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll explore ways to manage these costs more efficiently. While consolidating resources where possible, we believe the time has come to ask the community to consider supporting FU financially. We plan to do this once a year via a donation platform like PayPal, with full transparency on costs and expenses.
We’re also looking into new merch store platforms to offer better deals and a wider range of items—mugs and hats are especially in demand! All profits would go directly to FU’s upkeep, reducing our reliance on donations.
Whilst sesh has been a great ally for us for a long time, Discord native events have come a very long way and much of the functionality that sesh provided with its premium offering is now available directly within Discord.
Using discord events will simplify the user experience and save a large cost!
We discussed two possible directions for FU’s future:
After a lengthy discussion, we agreed that there’s room for both. We’ll aim to expand FU while ensuring there’s space for meaningful friendships to develop. A quick member poll showed strong interest in both growth and community-building.
To explore this further, we will host a Community Goals meeting soon to define FU’s direction for the next year.
This is a recurring topic in our meetings, and while burnout is inevitable in the types of games we play, we need better ways to address it.
A focus group session will be held in March, led by Guthammer, to explore burnout specifically within Planetside 2 leadership.
Additionally, we’ve noticed that while many members are online, fewer are playing together. If you’re waiting for someone else to start a squad, be the one to make it happen. Take the initiative to get a game going—others will join!
Arma is a fantastic game, and if you own it but haven’t given it a proper shot, now’s the time!
FU Noob Night is the perfect opportunity to jump in with a beginner-friendly, trimmed-down mod list. Chyper, Bizo, and Pug are always happy to help new players get started.
We also want to give Arma more visibility within FU by improving its presence in Discord onboarding and on the website, as well as doing some cross-game advertising.
As usual, our community meeting was a chance to nominate new Veterans. This title is given to members who embody the FU ethos and have made a significant impact on the community. If you know someone deserving, reach out to an officer to nominate them.
We also revisited the Officer role - its purpose has become unclear, and for some, it gives the impression of an overstaffed leadership structure. To address this, we’ll be:
