BVR in Arma is very underwhelming, but it's worth understanding how it looks like in practice regardless. Yet again I'll provide some tips and there will be some video examples below.
General tips:
- Focus on getting your missile off first. The quicker you can get your missile in the air and flying towards the enemy, the better as it forces them to go defensive which gives you the opportunity to get closer and potentially gain position on them depending on what they do and whether they launch a missile or not.
- Be versatile, these fights can very quickly transition into dogfights and you have to be ready to switch armaments all the time as well as adjust your plan for the fight on the go.
- Make the decision to engage/run early on before you get close to your enemy, you're unlikely to have time to do it later and you might find yourself having to commit to the fight just to avoid missiles.
- If you're in a plane that struggles in dogfights or you yourself don't feel confident, you can apply the tactic of throwing everything you have at the enemy at once. While spamming missiles all at once doesn't work very well, sending multiple missiles at once in an attempt to overwhelm the enemy can prove very effective and end the fight before you even catch a glimpse of each other.

Comments:
We went into the fights not knowing where we are relative to each other, only knowing the rough direction we should be going to find each other. This does mean that we were in imperfect situations to demonstrate the missiles' maximum capabilties but it is much more indicative of a fight you'd see in a real mission.
It's unlikely that you'll find yourself in a fight like this against other players in FU at least therefore being able to even match another player (especially one that's experienced in the game) can set you up perfectly against AI. Just remember to be adaptable, AI flies differently to players and every player has their own style of flight, you should be ready for any challenge.
